Edinburgh University Students Association (EUSA) is investing more than £150,000 on new EPoS (electronic point of sale) terminals for its student bars and cafes across the city.
More than 20 terminals are to be installed at ten bars and cafes, with the project set for completion in January 2007.
The outlets are open throughout the year and cater for 24,000 students spread across the university campuses.
EUSA central area manager Ian Goodyear said: "Our bars and cafes are extremely busy and the EPoS system will enable us to manage the business more efficiently."
"This is a major investment for the Students Association and we are confident that it will have major benefits for the business.
" It will provide individual managers with valuable information on the day-to-day running of their sites, and assist them with stock control and staffing levels."
" In addition, head office management will be able to see the overall picture and this will be of use in making decisions for the future."
Zonal Managing Director Stuart McLean said: " We are delighted to be working closely with Edinburgh University, especially as we are based in the city."
" I am confident that the EPoS terminals will benefit the bars and cafes."
