Zonal employees take on the Great Wall of China for Charity
An intrepid team of 11 trekkers from Zonal have stepped out for charity and taken on the Great Wall of China.
The team of 11 helped raise a staggering total in excess of £38,000 for the company’s adopted charity Hope For Children, which supports vulnerable youngsters by improving their access to education and healthcare. The team, headed by sales and marketing director, Clive Consterdine, completed over 100 miles of the wall in eight days, and climbing the equivalent of 665 storeys of a building, staying in rural homestays on the way.
Clive said: “I have always wanted to take on the Great Wall of China and raising money for Hope For Children proved the perfect catalyst to realise my ambition. The challenge took on an unplanned twist as I had to undergo emergency knee surgery just 4 months ago. To say it was a challenge is an understatement, but the thought of the charity and those that supported us kept us going.
“The amount we have raised has exceeded all our hopes and would like to thank our colleagues, family and friends who have given so generously. Children around the world will benefit greatly from the money.”
The trekkers’ fundraising has brought the total raised by Zonal to date for Hope For Children to more than £70,000.
Ed Fletcher from Hope For Children added: “The team have done us proud as this is not a challenge for the faint hearted. We continue to be amazed by the enthusiasm and generosity of Zonal employees for our charity. The money really does make a difference to the most vulnerable children here in the UK and overseas, and we are very proud and delighted to have Zonal’s support.”
Zonal raised the money through cake sales, golf days, sweepstakes and pub quizzes.
